According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, approximately 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States[i].  For children with special needs the incidence of wandering is higher than typical developing children.  Nearly half of children with autism will wander, or elope, from safe environments[ii].  Similarly, according to the National Alzheimer’s association, six in every ten people with Alzheimer’s disease exhibit wandering behavior[iii].  The sudden rise of in home security and automation and wirelessly connected tracking solutions offers more alert and tracking options to better manage a wandering incident.

Tech Toilet Training – “Smart” Solutions for the Developmentally Delayed – Part 3

In this series we built a technology solution with the goal of helping “Jane”, an older special needs child, become fully independent in toileting.   In Part 1 we discussed the modern approach to toilet training and challenges associated with toilet training children with special needs.  In Part 2 we discussed building the solution for Jane.  In Part 3 we will report on the results to date.
